Harare Wedding Venue Review – ART Farm

Long drive, out of town, specializing in agricultural research. Weddings also happen here.

Zimbabwe wedding venues – ART (Agricultural Research Trust) Farm as its name would hint is essentially a research institution that has opened up a certain section of the property to be used for weddings. According to the farm management that I spoke to on my visitation the farm which specializes in agricultural research had for a significant period of time this part of the property now used for weddings redundant.

It is found off Alpes Road after Pomona military base. You typically travel through Vainona when coming from town crossing Harare Drive along Alpes Road.

A decision was reached to open up the use of the facilities for weddings. Since then the venue has been in constant rather busy use by so many different wedding couples. I had known about this venue before and even had visited it prior to this review visitation. I will endevour to put together my opinion then and now in the following paragraphs of this review.

ART Farm is a modest wedding venue. As you would gather from my opening paragraphs above the venue was never designed to be a wedding venue in the first place. I suppose it came to be as a means by property owners to help the community as well as generate some revenue for their purposes. At least the administrator that I spoke to on my visit there did mention that the extra income from the venue is welcome.

Due to the context in which it exists, there are clearly some key things missing on this venue that one would expect of a wedding venue. Typically the wedding ceremony will take place just outside on the lawn next to a big hall that has capacity for 250 people around tables and 400 people cinema style.

The venue essentially offers the wedding planner the indoor reception hall and the ceremony lawn outside. It has no specially prepared area for wedding photographs, for example or any other feature natural or artificial of  key significance.

Venue Fees 2013

According to the venue “our charges  for 2012 are venue US$1000,  plus US$250 deposit which is refundable after the event providing no damage or breakages have occurred”. The venue did not provide 2013 fees. Please contact venue for 2013 rates. Clearly 2012 rates jumped much higher than 2011 rates. In 2011 we wrote  that fees were “$550.00 inclusive of a $150.00 refundable deposit”.

Terms and Conditions

The venue offers a few trestle tables and some 370 chairs as part of its package. These are basic metal chairs with a cushioned seat and back rest. There is also a kitchen available for the caterer to use when serving food and beverages. The venue  offers a back-up generator which can be used when there is power outage. This generator when needed uses 10ltrs of fuel per hour and that will be deducted from the deposit.

ART Farm has decent indoor ablutions.

Some couples prefer to use a different venue for photos. Some have had to travel back as far as Celebration Centre or Wingate for photos. Wingate Golf Club is obviously the closest.

Customer Service

Customer relations was great. The reception was client centered and I got to be shown around in no hurry with as many of my questions receiving adequate answers. I appreciated that.

According to an email by the venue “you are very welcome to come and look at the venue anytime during the week.
The phone number is 2930359 and  cell number (mornings only) is 0777614 934”. You may also contact the venue by email using email form below.
