Bulawayo Wedding Venue Review – Greens Garden

Competitively priced, well maintained, a venue to consider if you are in Bulawayo

As I was helping one of our clients with securing a venue in Bulawayo, I took an eye-opening trip to Greens Garden. I then thought of publishing this article so that I help as many readers as I can who are wedding planners in Bulawayo. Especially if they are still looking for a venue.

On offer is venue for hire. Included on the venue are the following: breathtaking pool area, well manicured gardens and quite a number of neatly thatched gazebos. In front of the pool there is a gazebo which can be used as the bar area for a cocktail reception. There are quite a number of spots that could be used for different things such as food area, church ceremony, etc. The venue is said to accommodate a maximum of 400 people though in my view it takes up to 300 people only.

Provided at this venue for your convenience are catering and décor services as well as crockery and cutlery hiring. Please note that you are also allowed to bring in service providers of your choice for these services.

Also available is a generator to provide power should you experience any electricity disruptions during the course of your function, as is the case everywhere in Zimbabwe today. May I also add that the use of the generator is included in the cost of hiring the venue which means that you will not pay anything extra should you make use of the generator.  I will be able rate these when I attend a function there hopefully in the near future

Services not offered

You would have to secure your own service providers for the following services as they are not provided on the venue;
• Photography
• Tables and chairs hiring
• Tent hiring

Unlike most venues, at Greens Gardens there is a flat charge of  $1000.00 to hire the venue. Payment  terms are as follows;
• 50 % down-payment on booking,
• Final payment a month before function
• As for decor charges, you would have to contact Green Gardens directly

It is important I mention that  according to Green Gardens management, the prevailing cost of $1000.00 is only up to the end of December 2011. As from the next wedding season, the venue hiring rate will likely go up to $1500.00

Greens Garden is located in a leafy, up-market suburb of Matshamhlope in Bulawayo. It is on the main road approximately 6  km from the city centre. This makes the venue very much accessible and very convenient. Although this venue is near town, its location is somewhat secluded so be rest assured that you will likely not have any uninvited guests.

One way to avoid ever opening a “Lost and NEVER found book” after your wedding is by choosing a venue that is secure. You would not want anyone holding on to bad memories of how their car was broken into at your wedding.

At Greens Garden, the parking lot is inside the venue which makes it very secure. You are allowed to have people assigned to watch over your cars and other possessions (to tighten security) as you do what you do best- enjoy the wedding! Did I mention that there is ample parking space so your guests will not have to spend valuable time looking for parking.

The day I visited Greens Gardens, the ablutions were sparkling clean and would like to believe that they are always in this state. Both (ladies and gents) are clearly labeled. The only downside is that for a function with about 300-400 people, the toilets maybe too few . This may prompt you to arrange for portable toilet hiring to avoid your guests overcrowding in the toilets. My overall rating of the ablutions below.

1. Booking is only confirmed once the down payment is paid, see Payments above.
2. Since Greens Garden is located in a residential area, no loud noise is allowed.
3. No alcohol is sold on premises, you would have to bring in your own.
4. There is a strict policy of one function at a time (exclusivity).
5. No child-minding services are provided so guests are advised to mind their children.

Greens Gardens has a play area with swings for the little ones and of course the young at heart. There is enough space should you want to arrange for a jumping castle and or trampoline. However, you may need to have a child minder as this ‘play area’ is a distance from the main garden area so keeping an eye on  your kids maybe a problem besides, it will defeat the whole purpose of your being there – to have a fabulous time. The venue does not provide child minders.

There is a section of the garden where you can get photos taken so you do not necessarily have to leave Greens Gardens during the course of your function. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to take any photos of this area.

General information about the venue

The venue has two entrances which makes it very convenient. One can be used as the entrance and the other as an exit. This also helps with security at the venue during a function.

There is no restriction as to which day you can have a function. Any day of the week is allowed.

The day I visited Greens Garden I noticed that there was some work going on. I actually didn’t realize that they were renovations – I mean the venue is already spectacular- what are renovations for? I was informed a bit later on that the works were in preparation for October 2011 weddings and beyond.

I was also informed that works had already begun to extend the gardens. Come December 2011, Green Gardens will be much bigger. So go ahead and extend your guest list too, Greens Gardens will definitely have room for one more person.

Despite the fact that this year’s very harsh winter negatively affected the garden’s greenery, I found it to be an amazing place. I would say it is a middle to up-market venue with a number of interesting features.

My favourite  is the pool area, I think it is beautiful. This venue is owner managed, by Mr. Mpofu and his wife whom I found to be very warm hearted and helpful .You can get hold of them on +263 (0)9 282324 for any further inquiries. No email address was available.
